When doing Stockinette Stitch it curls on the top & bottom edges.
Row1(RS):Knit
Row2(WS):Purl
To prevent Stockinette Stitch from curling on the top & bottom edges you need to do either the garter stitch (made by knitting every row) or the seed stitch.
Seed Stitch
Row1(RS): *K1, P1; rep from * to end of row.
Row2(WS): *P1, K1; rep from * to end of row.
Rep rows 1 & 2 for desired border.
